The J. Crew credit card, offered in partnership with Comenity Bank, offers a variety of rewards and discounts to frequent J. Crew shoppers. Our overview / review of the card is below:
The J. Crew credit card is a store-only credit card, meaning you can only use it at J.Crew stores or online, not at any other retailers. This is a downside, as it means opening a new credit line that can only be used sparingly. If you have a good credit history, this is no problem. But if your credit history is not so good, getting this card could hurt your credit score, especially in the short term.
That said, the J. Crew credit card offers a rewards program that you might like if you are a frequent shopper there. It gives you:
- 1 point for every dollar charged to the card. You get a $25 rewards card / gift card for every 500 points you earn.
- 15% off your first purchase with the card
- Free alterations
- Private event invitations
One thing to note: Points expire after 12 months. So, if you buy something today, the points you earn will disappear in a year unless you’ve spent enough with the card to earn a $25 gift card. We think this stinks.
Another thing that stinks about the J. Crew credit card is its 24.99% interest rate. Round that up to 25% and think about paying that much extra for each purchase if you don’t pay off the card each month. It’s a ridiculously high interest rate, and we’d suggest staying away from this card if you ever carry a balance on your credit cards. It will easily cancel out any rewards you earn and you can get into debt trouble in a hurry.
If you always pay off your credit cards on time, though, and you are a heavy J.Crew spender, then, by all means, apply for the J. Crew credit card via this online application.
